Quail myoD is regulated by a complex array of cis-acting control sequences
Article Abstract:
The cis-acting sequences necessary for tissue-specific and correct developmental expression were defined using the transcriptional regulation of Quail myoD (QmyoD). the oldest myoD family member in quail somites., Tissue specificity of the Quail myoD during development is due to three cis-acting sequences of the gene locus. The complex distal control region of myoD has three enhancer activities which can be autoactivated and are tissue specific. The second sequence in myoD controls developmental expression in both muscle and nonmuscle cells and suppression in some nonmuscle cells. The third sequence controls muscle-specific expression in cultured cells. Some features of the myoD regulation of development are seen in mammals.

Identification of DNA-binding protein(s) in the developing heart
Article Abstract:
Indirect histochemical analysis of an embryotic heart revealed the presence of DNA-binding proteins found exclusively in the nucleus of cardiac cells. Samples from different stages of development were immunoprecipitated and incubated to test for the presence and characteristics of the proteins. Data indicated that at least one protein occurs transiently through the various stages of heart cell development. Furthermore, this protein reacts with MyoD1 and myogenin.

The distal human myoD enhancer sequences direct unique muscle-specific patterns of lacZ expression during mouse development
Article Abstract:
The study of developmental expression of the myoD reporter transgene in somites, limb buds, visceral arches, and cephalocervical regions suggests that myoD has a specific role in establishment of myotome lineage and differentiation. Developmental variation between myotomes at various positions along the AP and DP axis and a unique axial pattern of somitic myoD expression is also suggested.
