Selected bacterial strains protect Artemia spp. from the pathogenic effects of Vibrio proteolyticus CW8T2
Article Abstract:
Several bacterial strains can protect the brine shrimp Artemia from attack by Vibrio proteolyticus CW8T2. The bacterial strains include Aeromonas sp. and Vibrio alginolyticus and the living cells are involved in this protective effect rather than any extracellular compounds.

Quorum sensing-disrupting brominated furanones protect the gnotobiotic brine shrimp Artemia franciscana from pathogenic Vibrio harveyi, Vibrio campbellii, and Vibrio parahaemolyticus isolates
Article Abstract:
Autoinducer 2 (AI-2) quorum sensing regulates the virulence of pathogenic isolates of Vibrio harveyi, V. campbellii and V. parahaemolyticus towards the brine shrimp Artemia franciscana. It is found that disruption of AI-2 quorum sensing by a natural and a synthetic brominated furanone protects the gnotobiotic Artemia from the pathogenic isolates in in vivo challenge tests.

Microbial control of the culture of Artemia juveniles through preemptive colonization by selected bacterial strains
Article Abstract:
Selected bacterial strains can be used to improve the nutritional value of dry food for Artemia juveniles and to obtain control of the associated microbial community. Nine bacterial strains with positive effects on survival and growth of Artemia juveniles were used to preemptively colonize the culture water of the juveniles. The preemptive colonization of the culture water had a drastic influence on the microbial communities that developed in the culture water or that were associated with the Artemia.
