RAPD variation within and among natural populations of trembling aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.) from Alberta
Article Abstract:
Significant differences on the random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) variation were noted among 18 of the 28 population pairs of 249 trees from eight natural populations. RAPD variation were partitioned into the among- and within-population components. The among-population component accounted for only 2.6% of the variation, but was significantly different from zero at the 1% level of probability. The within-population component, on the other hand, accounted for 97.4% of the variation and was significantly different from zero at the 2% level of probability.

A case of 1/29 Robertsonian translocation in both cellular lines of Freemartin heifer
Article Abstract:
C and G-banding methods were used to identify the X, Y, 1/29, one and 29 chromosomes in the chimaeric cellular lines of freemartin heifers. It was shown that the dam was heterozygotic for the 1/29 Robertsonian translocation while the choromosome complement of the sire was normal. Calculation of the probability of occurrence of the anomaly showed low values which explains the rare manifestation of this genetic anomaly among freemartin heifers.
