RFLP mapping of expressed sequence tags in the chicken
Article Abstract:
Restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) mapping, that uses chicken cDNA probes, gives polymorphic patterns in the East Lansing reference population. The c495 cDNA probe reveals the presence of an extra band in the White Leghorn female parents, that is not transferred to the progeny. Retroviral DNA located in the genome DNA samples of the females are probably responsible for the inheritance patterns as the c495 clone band. Circular DNAs are present in an immune cell-derived library indicating that some of the cDNAs are responsible for immune functions.

Teaching a new dog old tricks: identifying quantitative trait loci using lessons from plants
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine quantitative trait loci (QTL) in dogs using results of research on plant systems. A pedigree database was developed to organize pedigree data. QTL was simulated with an average effect alpha-linked to a marker supporting a recombination frequency. Alleles were then evaluated against levels of effect and gene frequencies. Results indicated that QTL can be determined in dog populations without changing methodologies designed for plants.

Selection Bias in Quantitative Trait Loci Mapping
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that caution is advisable for data decision, such as animals selected to be genotyped, for quantitative trait loci mapping in order to reduce bias. Studies were carried out within a full-sib family, among full-sib families and under random selection.
