Rapid and sensitive method for detection of shiga-like toxin-producing Escherichia coli in ground beef using the polymerase reaction
Article Abstract:
The amplification of Shiga-like toxins gene targets using two sets of oligonucleotide primer pairs is discussed. Ground beef samples were innoculated with the apppropriate toxin strains and cultured in modified trypticase soy broth for six hours at 42 degrees centigrade. DNA extraacted from the broth cultures showed that PCR assays can detect an initial sample inocolum of as few as one CFU.

Twelve-hour PCR-based method for detection of Salmonella spp. in food
Article Abstract:
Researchers describe a PCR technique that can detect Salmonella in food samples in 12 hours or less. Culture-based identification takes five or six days, during which time the food cannot be sold.

Rapid approach to determine rrn arrangement in Salmonella serovars
Article Abstract:
Researchers have designed PCR primers for the regions surrounding the seven rrn operons of Salmonella enterica serovars. The rrn operons are the source of chromosomal rearrangements in bacteria.
