The genetic structure of Escherichia coli populations in feral house mice
Article Abstract:
Strains of Escherichia coli were collected and isolated to examine the genetic structure of E. coli populations in feral house mice in a region of Australia. The study also aims to determine the role of host, spatial and temporal factors in the structures of these populations. Results show that the mean genetic diversity of this E. coli population is significantly lower than other E. coli populations. It was also found that spatial and temporal factors accounted for less than five percent of the genotypic diversity.

Identification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis signal sequences that direct the export of a leaderless beta-lactamase gene product in Escherichia coli
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the ability of a leaderless beta-lactamase in identifying signal-sequence-encoding M. tuberculosis genes. The study also characterize the capability of Mycobacterium tuberculosis signal sequences to influence beta-lactamase secretion in Escherichia coli. Results indicated that nearly all of the beta-lactamase gene fusions encoded signal sequences. Findings also showed that the sequenced signal-peptide-encoding DNA fragments could be paired with database sequences.
