Regulation of cellular differentiation in Caulobacter crescentus
Article Abstract:
Experimental studies reveal that compartment-specific gene expression in predivisional cells and asymmetric positioning of proteins regulate the cell cycle-regulated transcription, DNA replication and positional information expression in Caulobacter crescentus . Localization of proteins at a particular cellular site at a specific time in the cell cycle is essential for chromosome partitioning and cell division. Developmental checkpoints influence the progression of cells through the bacterial cell cycle. Transcription of early flagellar genes requires the start of DNA replication, while their expression and assembly influences the expression of middle and rate flagellar genes.

Control of rRNA transcription in Escherichia coli
Article Abstract:
The regulation of rRNA synthesis in Escherichia coli involves four different processes: stringent control, a growth-rate dependent mechanism, antitermination, and upstream activation. The separation of the growth-rate dependent rRNA synthesis from stringent control is disputed, however, since guanosine tetraphosphate is involved in both mechanisms. A major control occurs at the level of initiation of transcription, but a high enough elongation rate also contributes to attaining full-length transcripts.
