Regulation of integrin alpha5beta1 affinity during myogeneic differentiation
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to investigate the function of integrin alpha5beta1 during myogenic differentiation in chicken muscle cells. The results revealed a decrease in cell adhesion to the substrate in myogenic cells differentiated from replicating myoblasts to bipolar myocytes because of the inactivation of alpha5beta1. Treatment with monoclonal antibody U1alpha resulted to the activation alpha5beta1 and increased adhesion to fibronectin. However, U1alpha did not promote cell migration and morphogenesis of myotubes.

Temporal and spatial expression of an adult cuticle protein gene from Drosophila suggests that its protein product may impart some specialized cuticle function
Article Abstract:
The adult cuticle protein gene (Dacp-1) from Drosophila melanogaster resembles the Manduca and Drosophila cuticle protein genes in its structure. Dacp-1 is expressed in the epidermis and is similar to adult Locusta migratoria cuticle structural proteins in its amino acid sequence. The physical properties of its conceptual protein sequence, its expression timing and differential expression in the epidermis of the thorax and head indicate its participation in some distinct cuticle function.

Expression of gap junctions in cultured rat L6 cells during myogenesis
Article Abstract:
The precise developmental expression and molecular composition of gap junctions during myogenesis was investigated. RNA from cultures of rat L6 myoblasts were isolated and examined using Northern blot analysis with cDNA probes for connexin 32 and connexin 43. The results show that the expression of connexin 43 is temporally correlated with myoblast fusion and may play a role in this process.
