Research describing the enzymatic activity levels in juveniles of two species of Flamingo is presented. In particular the adult esophageal secretions used to feed the chicks are analyzed for their chemical composition.

Seasonal changes in diet, digestive morphology and digestive efficiency in the Rufous-collared sparrow (Zonotrichia Capensis) in Central Chile

Article Abstract:

The changes in the seasonal habitats of Rufous-collared sparrow (Zonotrichia Capensis) increase the metabolic rates and absorption of nutrients, and cause hypertrophy of the gastrointestinal tract. Certain environmental conditions increase the avian nutritional requirements. The increase in the size of digestive tract increases the amount of food carried with no effect on the effectiveness of digestion.

Digestive enzymes of a small avian herbivore, the Rufous-tailed Plantcutter

Article Abstract:

Research into the activity of three intestinal membrane-bound digestive enzymes in the Rufous-tailed Plantcutter (Phytotoma rara) indicates that in this bird, a very small species of avian herbivore, disaccharidase activities remain constant along the proximal 80% of the small intestine length. The Tukey test showed that sucrase and maltase significantly declined in the last segment, while there was a substantial rise in aminopeptidase-N activity after segment 4.
