Intratetrad mating, heterozygosity, and the maintenance of deleterious alleles in Microbotryum violaceum (=Ustilago violacea)
Article Abstract:
Microbotryum violaceum (=Ustilago violacea), a fungus, has been studied relative to intratetrad mating, heterozygosity, and maintenance of deleterious alleles. The cause of mating-type bias has been found to be deleterious recessive alleles linked to mating type. Intratetrad mating in M violaceum gives an explanation for low variation among individuals in populations and some other findings.

Inbreeding depression in two populations of Arenaria uniflora (Caryophyllaceae) with contrasting mating systems
Article Abstract:
Parallel family-structured crossing designs were used to compare self and outcross progeny in selfing and mainly outcrossing populations of Arenaria uniflora, an annual plant. Dominance and mutation rate of deleterious alleles in the selfer population was calculated. In the outcrosser group, significant variation among individuals was seen in the expression of inbreeding depression. This may reflect lineage-specific differences in inbreeding depression of outcrossers It is more likely that it reflects random variation in mutational load

Patterns of within population dispersal and mating of the fungus Microbotryum violaceum parasitising the plant Silene latifolia
Article Abstract:
The patterns of dispersal and mating of the anther smut Microbotryum violaceum, a model species in genetics and evolutionary biology is explored. Low genetic diversity, high levels of self-fertilisation and strong interpopulation differentiation in a natural M.violaceum metapopulation on S, latifolia have been found.
