Sequence analysis of the Bacillus subtilis chromosome region between the serA and kdg loci cloned in a yeast artificial chromosome
Article Abstract:
The direct use of one of the yeast artificial chromosome (YAC) clones from Bacillus subtilis for the sequencing of the region cloned in it is proposed as a strategy for the sequencing of the whole bacterial genome without intermediate cloning and for the larger inserts of eukaryotic origin cloned in YACs. The technique is comprised of the construction of M13 banks of the partially purified YAC DNA and sequencing of 800 M13 clones, the selection of M13 clones to sequence by using marginal contig fragments as hybridization probes and direct sequencing of joining PCR fragments.

Multiple-Locus sequence typing analysis of Bacillus cereus and Bacillus thuringiensis reveals separate clustering and a distinct population structure of psychrotrophic strains
Article Abstract:
Phylogenetic relationships for a collection of Bacillus cereus group strains isolated from forest soil in the Paris area during a mild winter is characterized with the use of multilocus sequence typing (MLST). The analysis of Bacillus cereus and Bacillus thuringiensis reveals separate clustering and a distinct population structure of psychrotrophic strains, and that they have clonal population structures.

The genetically remote pathogenic strain NVH391-98 of the Bacillus cereus group is representative of a cluster of thermophilic strains
Article Abstract:
A rare phylogenetically remote strain, NVH391-98, is characterized to encode an efficient cytotoxin K, which is responsible for food poisoning. A temperate phage, phB391A2, residing in the genome of NVH391-98 has distinguished the three known members of the thermophilic strain cluster.
