Silencing MIG1 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae: effects of antisense MIG1 expression and MIG1 gene disruption
Article Abstract:
Silencing of MIG1 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a transcription factor causing carbon catabolite repression on invertase, was tried either by disrupting the gene or by expressing antisense copies of the gene. The performance of the recombinant strains in bioreactor batch cultivations on sucrose, in the presence of glucose, was compared with that of the wild-type strain under the same situation. The rate of sucrose utilization was independent of the glucose concentration in the delta-mig1 strain.

Metabolic network analysis of Streptomyces tenebrarius, a Streptomyces species with an active Entner-Doudoroff pathway
Article Abstract:
The correlations between the primary and the secondary metabolism in the antibiotics producer Streptomyces tenebrarius are investigated. During the transition from growth phase to production phase, a metabolic shift is observed, characterizes by a decreased flux through the Entner-Doudoroff (ED) pathway and increased fluxes through the Embden-Meyerhof-Parnas (EMP) and pentose phosphate (PP) pathways.

Antisense silencing of the creA gene in Aspergillus nidulans
Article Abstract:
Research demonstrates that a partial alleviation of glucose repression via antisense expression of a portion of the creA gene, resulted in substantial increase in the glucose-repressible enzymes without affecting the growth parameters of Aspergillus nidulans.
