Specificity of receptor tyrosine kinase signaling: transient versus sustained extracellular signal-regulated kinase activation

Article Abstract:

Receptor tyrosine kinases stimulate several intracellular signaling pathways that include phospholipase C-gamma, 70 kDa S6 kinase, phosphoinositide 3-kinase and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathways. Studies on cell fate determination genetics and mammalian PC12 cell differentiation in tissue culture reveal that cellular responses are mediated by the MAPK pathways that are controlled by the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK). Cell signaling decisions are influenced by the duration of ERK induction and the presence of ERK-response transcription factors.

A report that TRPA1 has a central role in the pain response to endogenous inflammatory mediators and to a diverse array of volatile irritants, including those found in tear gas and garlic is presented. The transient receptor potential (TRP) family comprises seven structural related subfamilies and TRPs form multimeric complexes that might involve heteromultimerization both within and between different subgroups.

Regulatory functions of nuclear hexokinase1 complex in glucose signaling

Article Abstract:

Sequential screens are designed based on proteomics and the yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) assay to search for the proteins that directly interact with HXK1 (Arabidopsis hexokinase 1) in the nucleus. Genetic, transgenic, biochemical and molecular evidence have supported an essential role of the novel HXK1 nuclear complex in controlling diverse glucose responses in whole plants.
