The Caenorhabditis elegans ABL-1 tyrosine kinase is required for Shigella flexneri pathogenesis
Article Abstract:
The development of a pathogenesis system is reported that involves the use of Caenorhabditis elegans as a model organism for studying Shigella flexneri virulence determinants and host molecules required for pathogenesis. It is also demonstrated that ABL-1, the Caenorhabditis elegans homolog of the mammalian c-Abl nonreceptor tyrosine kinase ABL1, is needed for Shigella flexneri pathogenesis in nematodes.

Uptake of CdSe and CdSe/ZnS quantum dots into bacteria via purine-dependent mechanisms
Article Abstract:
A demonstration presented shows that adenine-conjugated quantum dots (QDs) are able to label wild-type Bacillus subtilis only when the size of the QDs is <5nm. Labeling is dependent upon purine-processing mechanism, as mutants lacking single enzymes demonstrate a qualitatively different signal than do wild-type strains.

Genetic loci of major antigenic protein of Edwardsiella tarda
Article Abstract:
Seven antigenic proteins of Edwardsiella tarda were identified by using a rabbit polyclonal antiserum. Four of these proteins also reacted with a Japanese flounder antiserum.
