Spreadsheet method for evaluation of biochemical reaction rate coefficients and their uncertainties by weighted nonlinear least-squares analysis of the integrated monod equation
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to characterize a weighted nonlinear least-squares technique for analyzing biochemical reaction rate coefficients and their certainties. The Damkohler number was computed to verify adequate mass transfer while the model sensitivity to the parameters were determined by computing approximate first derivatives of the model predictions in relation to the parameters. The uncertainty method can be utilized to compute single-parameter confidence intervals and joint confidence regions for two or more parameters.

Isolation and characterization of a facultatively aerobic bacterium that reductively dehalogenates tetrachloroethene to cis-1,2-dichloroethene
Article Abstract:
A new facultatively aerobic bacterium called strain MS-1 has been isolated and characterized. Strain MS-1 reductively dehalogenates tetrachloroethene to cis-1,2-dichloroethene through trichloroethene. The strain shares several characteristics with members of the family Enterobacteriaceae. It can oxidize approximately 58 substrates including several carbohydrates, short-chain fatty acids, amino acids, purines and pyrimidines.
