Stage-specific induction and regulation by genomic imprinting of the mouse U2afbp-rs gene during preimplantation development
Article Abstract:
The expression of the gene U2af binding protein related sequence (U2afbp-rs) depends on whether the fertilized ovum contains two paternal genes, two maternal genes or one of each. This gene is expressed as early as the two-cell stage. Experimentation on rat embryos revealed that fertilized ova surgically manipulated to have two paternal genes had the highest level of U2afbp-rs expression, followed by the normal ova. Ova surgically manipulated to have two maternal genes had the lowest level of U2afbp-rs expression.
