The mycarose-biosynthetic genes of Streptomyces fradiae, producer of tylosin
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate that mycarose-biosynthetic gene(s) tyICVI is part of the polyketide synthase gene complex in Streptomyces fradiae. Sequence and functional aspects of mycarose specific gene product tylosin are presented.

Feedback control of polyketide metabolism during tylosin production
Article Abstract:
Research reveals that biosynthesis of tylosine in Streptomyces fradiae involves polyketide metabolism and synthesis of three sugars. Data indicate that production of mycaminosyl sugar and tylactone stimulate the polyketide metabolism.

Stimulation of polyketide metabolism in Streptomyces fradiae by tylosin and its glycosylated precursors
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the stimulation of polyketide metabolism in Streptomyces fradiae. The results show that the targeted disruption of orf2* did not result in the accumulation of tylactone under conditions that normally favor the production of tylosin. Instead, the synthesis of tylactone was eradicated. The findings indicate that glycosylated macrolides have a significantly positive effect on polyketide metabolism in S fradiae.
