Subventricular zone astrocytes are neural stem cells in the adult mammalian brain
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to show that subventricular zone astrocytes remain labeled with proliferation markers after long survivals in adult mice. An antimitotic treatment was utilized to eliminate immature precursors and neuroblasts. Results indicated that the astrocytes infected with a retrovirus promote unique neurons in the olfactory bulbs and give rise to cells that grow into multipotent neurospheres in vitro.

Decapentaplegic is essential for the maintenance and division of germline stem cells in the Drosophila ovary
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the role of the BMP2/4 homolog decapentaplegic in maintaining female germline stem cells and promoting their division. Results indicated that the overexpression of dpp results into overian stem cell tumors. Findings also showed that the downstream components of the dpp signaling pathway are needed cell-autonomously in the germlin stem cells for their division and maintenance.
