Induction of phase variation events in the life cycle of the marine coccolithophorid Emiliania huxleyi
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the unicellular marine alga Emiliania huxleyi, the producer of calcite. The conditions for the phase switching induction from the diploid coccolithophore cell to the haploid swarm cell life cycle stages of this alga have been investigated, and the ability of manipulating the life cycle of the alga in the laboratory environment has been discussed.

Suppressive subtractive hybridization of and differences in gene expression content of calcifying and noncalcifying cultures of Emiliania huxleyi strain 1516
Article Abstract:
PCR-based suppressive subtractive hybridization (SSH) is used to detect differences in gene expression in coccolith-bearing Emiliania huxleyi cells grown in phosphate-limited medium and non-coccolith-bearing cells grown in phosphate-replete medium. SSH libraries are developed from cultures grown in phosphate-limited and phosphate-replete media as tester and driver populations for reciprocal SSH procedures.

cDNA microarrays as a tool for identification of biomineralization proteins in the coccolithophorid Emiliania huxleyi (Haptophyta)
Article Abstract:
cDNA microarrays were employed to study changes in gene expression associated with biomineralization in the most abundant coccolithophorid, Emiliania huxleyi. The data described present profiles of transcription changes associated with biomineralization-related pathways in Emiliania huxleyi and have identified novel and potentially useful targets for detailed analysis.
