Synaptic function is impaired but not eliminated in C. elegans mutants lacking synaptotagmin
Article Abstract:
Molecular and genetic investigations show that trough the second operation of the presynaptic nerve terminal in Caenorhabditis elegans needs synaptotagmin, partial neurotransmitter release continues in synaptotagmin mutants. The exocytic faults in snt-1 mutants of accumulating acetylcholine and resisting cholinesterase inhibitors do not deter their ability to direct motor movements, suggesting that they lack a mechanism to totally obstruct neurotransmitter release.

Sec3p is a spatial landmark for polarized secretion in budding yeast
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to study Sec3p as a key component of the machinery specifying the spatial regulation of exocytosis in budding yeast. Standard methods were utilized for growth, transformation and genetic manipulation while some cells were pelleted, resuspended and incubated. Results showed that the localization of Sec3p changed with the cell cycle but was independent of both the cytoskeleton and continued flux through the secretory pathway.

MIX-1: an essential component of the C. elegans mitotic machinery executes x chromosome dosage compensation
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to test whether a functional part of the Caenorhabditis elegans mitotic machinery promotes X chromosome gene expression. A polymerase chain reaction fragment encoding MIX-1 amino acids was cloned into the T7 expression vector. Results showed that the C. elegans dosage compensation process developed by recruiting components utilized in other chromosome behaviors to the task of improving X chromosome expression.
