The BRCA1/BARD1 heterodimer modulates Ran-development mitotic spindle assembly
Article Abstract:
BRCA1/BARD1 is needed for mitotic spindle-pole assembly and for accumulation of TPX2, a major spindle organizer and Ran target, on spindle poles in both mammalian cells and Xenopus egg extracts. The studies have revealed a previously unrecognized function of BRCA1/BARD1 in mitotic spindle assembly that might contribute to its role in chromosome stability control and tumor suppression.

A mitotic role for BRCA1/BARD1 in tumor suppression?
Article Abstract:
Xenopus egg extracts are used to dissect the mitotic function of the tumor-suppressor protein BRCA1/BARD1 heterodimer. The study has provided evidence that BRCA1/BARD1 has a distinct role in mitosis therefore the loss of mitotic spindle assembly, a process conducted by the GTPase-Ran, might contribute to tumorigenesis.

Multifactorial contributions to an acute DNA damage response by BRCA1/BARD1-containing complexes
Article Abstract:
DNA damage-specific interactions were observed between BRCA1/BARD1 and the DNA damage-response proteins, TopBP1 and Mre11/Rad50/NBS1. The results support a new, multifactorial model that describes how genotoxic stress enables BRCA1 to execute a diverse set of DNA damage-response functions.
