A homologue of the tryptophan-rich sensory protein TspO and FixL regulate a novel nutrient deprivation-induced Sinorhizobium meliloti locus
Article Abstract:
Researchers have isolated a protein from Sinorhizobium meliloti that is similar to the tryptophan-rich sensory protein TSPO from Rhodobacter sphaeroides and the mitochondrial benzodiazepine receptor pK18 from mammals. This protein is produced during conditions of nutrient deprivation and results in a survival state that sustains the organism until nutrients are available again.

The Sinorhizobium meliloti nutrient-deprivation-induced tyrosine degradation gene hmgA is controlled by a novel member of the arsR family of regulatory genes
Article Abstract:
Researchers have identified a regulatory gene similar to the arsR family in Sinorhizobium meliloti that regulates the homogentisate dioxygenase (hmgA) gene. The nitR locus also produces a protein similar to ATP-binding phosphonate transport protein and transmembrane efflux proteins.

A new genetic locus in Sinorhizobium meliloti is involved in stachydrine utilization
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze a novel genetic locus in Sinorhizobium meliloti and investigate its association in stachydrine utilization. Genomic DNA was obtained by conventional techniques before being digested with restriction enzymes. Probes for DNA hybridizations were then produced by random-primed labeling. Experimental results indicated that stachydrine catabolism promotes root colonization.
