The Xenopus chromokinesin Xkid is essential for metaphase chromosome alignment and must be degraded to allow anapahase chromosome movement
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate that a Xenopus homolog of human kinesin-like DNA binding protein aids in the normal alignment of the chromosomes during metaphase. Data further indicate that the protein in the degraded form facilitates chromosome movement during anaphase.

Xkid, a chromokinesin required for chromosome alignment on the metaphase plate
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate the role of a kinesin-like protein in the equatorial alignment of the chromosomes and its maintenance during metaphase of the cell division. Data indicate that the force exerted by the protein aligns kinetochores and chromosomes on a narrow equatorial plate.

Activating and silencing the mitotic checkpoint through CENP-E-dependent activation/inactivation of BubR1
Article Abstract:
Results show that the kinetochore-associated microtubule motor CENP-E is the activator of the mitotic checkpoint kinase BubR1 in Xenopus. Data indicate that CENP-E mediates silencing of BubR1 signaling and that BubR1 has a dual role, an enzyme one and a stoichiometric one. In the enzyme mode it requires activation of its kinase activity by CENP-E.
