The calpain-system of Drosophila melanogaster: Coming of age
Article Abstract:
Drosophila melanogaster is a powerful model organisms that help our understanding of mammalian (human) life processes at the molecular level while calpains are Ca (super 2+) - activated cytoplasmic proteases that play multiple roles in intracellular signal processing by limited proteolsis of target substrate proteins. The calpain superfamily consists of 14 genes in mammals but only 4 genes in Drosophila.

A bigger mouse? The rat genome unveiled
Article Abstract:
The published draft rat genome sequence provides us with insights into both the rat's evolution and its physiology and rattus norvegicus is an important experimental organism and interesting to evolutionary biologists. Some regions of genomes and many in noncoding regions show very high sequence evolution, is an important discovery.
