The genetical and environmental determination of phally polymorphism in the freshwater snail Bulinus truncatus
Article Abstract:
Several freshwater snails from seven different natural populations were studied to identify genetic and environmental factors that determine phally polymorphism. The results indicate that aphally determination is strongly influenced by genetic factors. However, it was also determined that certain temperature values influenced selfing behavior in aphallic populations. It was concluded that genetic factors, probabilities processes and undetermined temperature thresholds are responsible for the sexual morphism of freshwater snails.

Heterozygosity-fitness correlations: new perspectives on old problems
Article Abstract:
New perspectives on problems related to heterozygosity-fitness correlations (HFCs), which seem to be intrinsically weak and frequently inconsistent across samples, are discussed. These correlations have been studied in various organisms, but are not universal, and detectability is limited by several factors. Determining origins is difficult, but new empirical and theoretical tools and clear hypotheses and definitions would help.

Alternative models for allozyme-associated heterosis in the marine bivalve Spisula ovalis
Article Abstract:
Consistent patterns are not observed in the correlation between the fitness related traits, such as growth and allozyme heterozygosity documented in the natural population of marine bivalves. This indicates that heterotic effects on the variation of size of the bivalves with age is not documented. A complete documentation may reveal the genetic basis of the allozyme mediated heterosis in the bivalves.
