The prevalence of common BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations among Ashkenazi Jews
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that family history is the strongest predictor of ovarian or breast cancer susceptibility. In studies on Ashkenazi Jewish women, those who reported family members who contracted the diseases before age 50 were likely to be carrying the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. Although this process provides accurate estimation, conclusive identification for single individuals remains elusive.

The genetic basis for periodic fever
Article Abstract:
Molecular defects that underlie certain types of periodic-fever syndromes have been determined with the discovery of the MEFV gene. These types, known as familial Mediterranean fever, include a spectrum of mutations that will direct research now that they have been identified. This will facilitate the testing of other genes that may be positional candidates.
