The robustness of the transcriptional response to alterations in morphogenetic gradients
Article Abstract:
Two simple models of transcriptional activation involving the response of a promoter p with H binding sites, to the morphogenetic gradient of a transcriptional activator A, are explored for testing their ability to generate a sigmoidal output and buffer changes in the dosage for producing a robust response. Results highlight the crucial role of an inhibitor in the generation of a sharp and robust response and the effect of nonlinearities on robustness of the response.

High-throughput localization of organelle proteins by mass spectrometry: A quantum leap for cell biology
Article Abstract:
The combination of analytical centrifugation, mass spectrometry and advanced statistical techniques is used to understand the high-throughput analysis of the content and organization of plant and animal cells. The results have revealed some intriguing possibilities for the future and the possibility of mapping much of the known proteome onto the current map of the cell.
