The role of environmental factors in the regulation of virulence-determinant expression in Staphylococcus aureaus 8325-4
Article Abstract:
The human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus is implicated in many diseases such as septicaemia, meningitis, osteomyelitis and toxic-shock syndrome. Several transcriptional report gene fusions have been constructed to study environmental regulation of virulence-determinant production. Expression of hla, tst and spa was repressed in the presence of sodium chloride or sucrose, but sarA remained unaffected. DNA gyrase inhibitor novobiocin, did not raise expression of tst in wild-type or agr and did not relive salt suppression.

Kinetic analysis of morphological differentiation and protease production in Streptomyces albidoflavus SMF301
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that chymotrypsin-like protease (CTP) production in the microorganism Streptomyces albidoflavus SMF301 occurs during mycelium growth. Trypsin-like protease and metalloprotease production decreases as spore formation continues. Maximum mycelium growth rate and CTP production occurs at 0.01 hours although maximal submerged spore formation, TLP production and MTP production occurs at 0.0025 hours.
