Timing is everything: a reconsideration of fetal growth velocity patterns identifies the importance of individual and sex differences
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the fetal growth in leg length that had its peak velocity at or about 20-26 gestational weeks and declined subsequently. However, results support the importance of sex-specific analyses and indicate that girls grow faster than boys and reemphasize the common notion of direct attention to cross-talk between energy resources and growth.

Life history, maintenance, and the early origins of immune function
Article Abstract:
Life history theory provides a predictive framework for identifying prenatal and early postnatal factors that are likely to shape immune function over the life course. A series of hypotheses derived from key life history issues are proposed and evaluated with data from ongoing research on immune function in the Philippines and Bolivia.

Fetal origins of developmental plasticity: Animals models of induced life history variation
Article Abstract:
The concepts of phenotypic plasticity, natural selection, and evidence from animal models that early-life events can program the activity of the neuroendocrine system are reviewed. Data from seasonally breeding rodents are used to illustrate the use of maternally derived information to alter the life history of the young.
