Tunicate tails, stolons, and the origin of the vertebrate trunk
Article Abstract:
The primitive tunicate chordates develop a transient tail in the larval stage, but not all tunicates have tails. Salps and pyrosomes have a trunk-like reproductive stolon and it is thought that the tail and caudal trunk in more advanced chordates may have evolved from such a stolon. Morphological and molecular data provides some circumstantial support for the so called 'stolon hypotheses'.

On the origin and evolution of major morphological characters
Article Abstract:
A general theory is used to describe the origin and evolution of morphological novelties, relying on functional continuity, least-constrained components of morphology, redundancy and preadaptation. The evolution of morphology has provided a critical link between the ecological and morphological networks.

A critical reappraisal of the fossil record of the bilaterian phyla
Article Abstract:
The belief that existing bilaterian phyla originate from the Cambrian explosion is questionable, with most modern body plans having later origins. A reappraisal of the fossil record of the bilaterian phyla is presented.
