Development of the immunomagnetic enrichment method selective for Vibrio parahaemolyticus serotype K and its application to food poisoning study
Article Abstract:
A new method employing immunomagnetic separation was developed to isolate a specific K serotype of Vibrio parahaemolyticus from a mixture of bacteria with other K serotypes. This involved the use of Dynabeads which were either treated or untreated with Escherichia coli, depending on the concentration of V. parahaemolyticus cells in the culture. Applying this method to the investigation of clinical outbreaks resulted in recovery of the V. parahaemolyticus serotype found in the patient from the incriminated food.

The beta-mannanase from "Caldocellum saccharolyticum" is part of a multidomain enzyme
Article Abstract:
A description of the sequence analysis of beta-mannanase and the identification of its repetitive domains are discussed. Sequence analysis, polymerase chain reaction and assays for mannanase and cellulase activities were carried out on plasmids. It was found that the expressed protein consists of two catalytic domains and two binding domains. These two are separated by proline and threonine residues-rich spacer regions.
