Venom evolution widespread in fishes: A phylogenetic road map for the bioprospecting of piscine venoms
Article Abstract:
An analysis is presented on fishes with thousands of venoms, representing an untapped source of natural products. Results of the analysis allow to hypothesize the number of and identity venomous species, hypothesize the number of times that venom apparatuses have originated by delimiting all venomous clades and make effective predictions about venomous fishes and venom evolution with the help of a predictive phylogenetic framework.

Why cavefish are blind
Article Abstract:
Cavefish lack normal lens development, which is crucial for the formation of the vertebrate cornea, pupil and iris. However, the findings indicate that the presence of a surface fish lens is sufficient to induce eye development in cavefish.

Adaptive Evolution of Eye Degeneration in the Mexican Blind Cavefish
Article Abstract:
Pleiotropy and adaptive evolution are identified as likely causes for cavefish eye degeneration. Research shows that Hedgehog midline signaling expands in this species, and prevents eye formation by fostering lens apoptosis.
