Zaprionus tuberculatus: chromosome map and gene mapping by DNA in situ hybridization
Article Abstract:
Chromosome analysis of Zaprionus tuberculatus was performed to determine mechanisms determining evolutionary relationships between Zaprionus, Drosophila and related genera. The Zaprionus genome was made up of five rod-shaped chromosomes and one dot-like chromosome. Results from in situ hybridization showed that all seven probes used hybridized strongly to the Zaprionus genome compared to only five for Drosophila. The variability in karyotypic evolution was postulated to come from paracentric inversions and occasional centric fusions. However, chromosomal constitution remained essentially unchanged.

Instability of the minisatellite sequence in the first intron of the rat renin gene and localization of the gene to chromosome 13q13 between FH and PEPC loci
Article Abstract:
A study was done on the minisatellite sequence in the first intron of the rat renin gene. A genetic instability was shown in the minisatellite of a new allelic variant found after testing 136 animals from two sets of backcross progenies. Renin locus on linkage group X was identified between fumarate hydrase and peptidase loci. The renin gene on the rat chromosome was then mapped using fluorescence in situ hybridization.

Structure of an unusual minisatellite locus, Ssa1, in Pacific salmonids
Article Abstract:
DNA fingerprinting and stock identification of salmonid fish increasingly uses polymorphism at minisatellite loci. It is expected that such highly polymorphic loci will play a major part in developing genetic maps for salmonid's complex karyotypes. Details of an examination of the genetic structure of the salmonid Ssa1 minisatellite locus are presented.
