Trade gap expanded by 29% in 1992

The Dept of Commerce announced that the 1992 US balance of trade reached $84.34 billion, a 29% increase from 1991. The sudden rise reversed a downward trend that started in 1987. The Dec 1992 balance of trade fell to $6.95 billion from the $7.35 billion recorded in November.

Trade gap reached six-year high in 1994
Article Abstract:
The Commerce Dept reported that the US trade deficit increased from $75.7 billion in 1993, to $108.1 billion in 1994, a 42% increase. Japan and China accounted for 57% of the merchandise trade gap in 1994. The US's robust economy caused a surge in demand for foreign goods.
