Personal assistants lend users a hand at stroke of a pen
Article Abstract:
The publicity departments of computer makers are hard at work pushing 'personal digital assistants' (PDAs), a new kind of hand-held computer. The industry says users will be able to organize their lives and communicate with the rest of the world better with these pen-based devices. The question remains, though: Are PDAs just another exotic new piece of hardware, or do they provide genuine benefits at a reasonable price? PDAs, also known as 'personal information processors' or 'personal communicators,' combine an electronic organizer with a modem or wireless telecommunications capabilities. PDAs can be used for sending or receiving faxes and electronic mail and accessing various information services. All these applications are controlled with a stylus. The value and success of these little machines has yet to be determined.

Role of response behavior theory in survey research: a cross-national study
Article Abstract:
The awareness of research practitioners about four theoretical frameworks, including cognitive dissonance, exchange theory, self-perception, and involvement, was assessed in order to determine the best technique for eliciting responses in surveys. Results revealed that respondents do have knowledge of the theories and do actively use them. Data from the sample groups also produced results contrary to existing literature which state that commitment and involvement have hardly been utilized to account for methodological effects.
