A collage of art successes
Article Abstract:
When US executive Alfred Mertz's collection of Australian art was auctioned off by Christie's in June 2000, the sale of work by 65 artists raised an unprecedented $AS16 million, and in the same year Sotheby's set another record by selling a collection of Aboriginal art and artefacts for a total of $AS4.4 million. With the global economic slowdown in 2001, the record-breaking art sales are unlikely to continue.
