A crane scheduling problem in a computer-integrated manufacturing environment
Article Abstract:
A model for scheduling a tote stacker crane in the computer-integrated manufacturing environment of a printed circuit board plant is presented. The plant uses one crane for moving all of the system's work-in-process (WIP) from one workstation to another. The goal is to maximize the yield rate subject to the WIP's flow time limit. The plant can obtain a nearly optimal solution by using a cyclic scheduling system. The minimum cycle time for a particular sequence in a multiple-product problem is the maximum cost circular network flow problem in a graph. A heuristic that approximately minimizes the cycle time for all sequences of product types in a cycle is presented.

Marketing-production decisions in an industrial channel of distribution
Article Abstract:
A model is presented that addresses the interaction between production and marketing decisions in an industrial goods distribution channel consisting of a distributer and a manufacturer. The main issue examined is the nature of in-channel coordination in light of a changing pattern of seasonal demand. Production activities such as inventory policy and product delivery are considered, as well as their link to marketing strategies such as pricing policies. Emphasis is on the dynamic quality of the coordinational aspects of the different policies. A mechanism is proposed to address the issues, and explicit answers provided to questions.
