Australia's market for information technology (IT) systems for the health industry is forecast to reach a value of A$2.8 billion by 2004, from an estimated A$1.76 billion in 2000. Health organizations invest an average of 35% of their overall capital budget in IT, with the large growth in health IT having been boosted by changes to the government's practice-incentives scheme for GPs.

There is considerable risk of serious misunderstandings in relationships between stockbrokers and their clients, especially with regard to 'discretionary' investment accounts. This risk is highlighted by the case of businessman Rahmat Ali, who is suing broking firm Hartley Poynton for A$9 million.
