Restructuring at Australian retailer Coles Myer has begun with Operation Right Now, a cost-cutting scheme which has involved making 1,000 middle managers and clerical staff redundant. There are signs of recovery, with sales rising by 6.2% in the first nine weeks of 2001 to 2002, but the general merchandise and clothing division remains weak.
