Raft of new wireless technologies could lead to airwave gridlock
Article Abstract:
As new technologies compete for the burdened 2.4 gigahertz band of radio spectrum, industry engineers are challenged to build in "spread spectrum" and other innovations to avoid interference, noise and signal overlaps. This has inspired a grass-roots movement for public access wireless-networks via rooftop antennas. The Federal Communication Commission foresaw the problem when it set up the spectrum which was aimed for those who needed to test their devices without having to buy an expensive government license.

Wireless-Web industry has issues to clear before its devices begin to flood market
Article Abstract:
Jupiter sees narrow band wireless services continuing to dominate the U.S. market for the next 4 to 6 years. Despite the proliferation of devices, like cell phones equipped with Web browsers and wireless PDAs, over the next 5 years most U.S. consumers will continue to talk over cell phones and access the Web from a PC. Third generation, or 3G, broadband wireless network companies are proceeding cautiously. Presently, consumers seem content with short messaging and city directory services. They don't see the value of surfing the Web on a 2 x 2 in. screen.
