A shake-up in the body shop
Article Abstract:
The methods of the automobile body repair industry will change with the introduction to Australia of a computerized database system that assesses labor and parts costs for repairs. Automatic Data Processing's (ADP) Audatex system will provide insurers, repairers, claims assessors, manufacturers, and parts suppliers with a secure communications platform that allows all to share the same pricing information. The database costs about $30 million a year to update.

Business outlook: merchandising exports
Article Abstract:
Asian demand for merchandising exports from Australia collapsed in 1997-98, but Australia was able to switch markets, as rural and mineral products, unlike manufactured goods, did not require market modification. By June 1999, the Asian market for Australian exports recovered, but a weak world demand meant lower prices for rural and mineral products. By June 1999, only rural products had improved over June 1998 levels.
