A stochastic sequencing problem for style goods with forecast revisions and hierarchical structure
Article Abstract:
The production planning problem of determining production volumes and a production sequence for style goods, which have one selling season annually, is addressed by analyzing the production planning process of a big consumer electronics firm. In the analysis, products are assumed to have a two-stage hierarchy made up of items and families, and the problem is formulated as a two-stage stochastic sequencing problem. A non-complex heuristic solution process is suggested to address the problem, which accounts for prediction revisions and suggests a lower bound on the optimal value. Research findings suggest that the computational results achieved indicate the applicability of the proposed process.

Level schedules for mixed-model assembly lines in just-in-time production systems
Article Abstract:
A theoretical basis and new algorithms and heuristics for the scheduling of just-in-time production systems that use mixed-model assembly lines is described. The production system takes advantage of levelling or balancing the production schedule to establish a constant rate of usage of all parts needed in the assembly line.
