Facing a merger, Apple still fills a crucial post
Article Abstract:
Apple names Heidi Roizen vice president of the division responsible for developing and sustaining relationships with independent software vendors (ISV). Roizen will oversee independent development of Macintosh-compatible spreadsheet and word processing software. Apple competitor Microsoft is presently the largest independent developer of Macintosh applications. Roizen's former position as CEO and founder of T-Maker, a software development firm, gives her a degree of respectability in the computer software industry. The move fills a position that had been left open for nearly a year and comes despite Apple's rumored pending acquisition by Sun Microsystems. Insiders suggest that the two companies are having difficulty agreeing on Apple's sales price.
