AST says Yuen resigned posts and Santuro is appointed chairman
Article Abstract:
AST Research Inc announces the resignation of Thomas C K Yuen and the appointment of Carmelo Santoro as chairman of the company. Yuen, a founder of AST, will remain on its board of directors. The move follows a three-month analysis of the firm's place in the computer industry, and may signal further shakeups. AST has been experiencing some of the fastest growth in the industry, although its profits have slipped recently in the face of the price wars among microcomputer makers. AST executive Safi Qureshey is also stepping down as co-chairman, remaining with the company in operations. Founded in 1980, AST originally manufactured peripherals for microcomputers that are compatible with IBM's systems, but is trying to establish itself as a major manufacturer of microcomputer systems. The company's stock closed at $13.50 on Jun 29, 1992, up 62 cents on the news of the structural changes.
