AT&T faces hurdle as DSL plans gain speed
Article Abstract:
AT&T wants to provide high-speed Internet access services to the entire US by offering digital subscriber line (DSL) technology. The company recently purchased NorthPoint Communications Group Inc.'s remaining assets toward this end. However, a contract signed earlier in 2001, between AT&T, Comcast Corp. and Cox Communications Inc., prohibits AT&T to offer DSL service in the territories the two cable companies operate in, until June 4, 2006. If the contract is not breached, AT&T will be delayed in offering nationwide DSL service.
