The closure of the bakery and patisserie chain Browns that were about to close due to losses was stopped when the two Melbourne prominent families, the Roches and the Roaches joined it on September 20, 2002 bringing a hope for its survival. The business was losing more than $50,000 a week and the creditors were owed up to $4million, hence the need to close was a necessity, which abseted many Melbourne society matrons.
