There are 20,000 to 30,000 firms in Australia offering both online trading and an internet site. This figure is set to double by the end of 2002, according to Paul Budde, principal of Paul Budde Communication. Some 61.3% of information technology spending is now being devoted to e-business initiatives, according to a survey of 500 firms with information technology departments.

Boral Energy has improved its communications and accounting practices and is saving $400,000 a year after introducing touch-screen technology called "InCab" into its fleet of delivery trucks.
