Airline safety: the last decade
Article Abstract:
Airline safety information for 30 US domestic and 80 international airlines from 1977 through 1986 was compared to data for the previous two decades. The US domestic carriers are the safest airlines in the world with a death risk per flight ratio of one in eleven million. There has been a continual improvement in the US domestic carrier safety record since the early 1960s, but the improvement has been slowed by the deregulation of the airline industry. Results for the The international flights also show improvement, but flights from communist bloc and third-world carriers average eight times the death risk of airlines from industrialized first-world nations.

New software cuts cost of Internet marketing
Article Abstract:
Actinic has produced a software that allows the small business person to advertise and sell his product over the Internet. The system is less expensive at under $350 compared to that delivered by rivals Mercantec and Intershop. Two British entrepreneurs, Chris Barling and Kevin Grumball, developed the software, which has been touted to be able to provide electronic commerce in a box. Actinic is advantageous in that it does away with the costs of leased lines and special systems on ISP computers as anyone with a fair knowledge of the Web can publish his catalogue of goods and services.
