Alternatives to the centre - new ways of developing and deploying individuals
Article Abstract:
Assessment and Development centres often do not adequately meet the needs of modern-day organisations because they are constantly changing, markets are changing and budgets are limited. A more appropriate approach might be to assess managerial skill over a longer time-period, such as one year. Short-term development plans, based over three months, may allow companies to offer training courses themselves and would offer cost-savings to the company. Mentors could assist with monitoring progress and offer support and ideas. The training would also be very topical and relevant.
