America West airline fined $2.5 million for violations
Article Abstract:
America West Airlines has agreed to pay a $2.5 million fine, the largest in airline history, imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration for violations of maintenance and operations requirements. The FAA also has said that it may impose an additional $2.5 million fine on America West, the country's ninth-largest airline. The additional fine would be due in 12 months if the airline refuses to comply with an agreement that is aimed at improving the safety operations of America West, including periodic safety inspections and supervision of maintenance on its aircraft.

Forget jingles. Viewers prefer familiar tunes in commercials
Article Abstract:
Source Maythenyi says in 1999 130 ads featured music originally released commercially. Licensing hit music for a year for an ad costs about $150,000; using the recording itself doubles that fee. Commissioning a tune is less expensive. An advertiser is likely to license a non-hit tune for a campaign aimed at a specific smaller market.
